Projects

The Saabri & Ashrafi Relief Fund hosts various charitable projects throughout the year. Food hampers are distributed annually on significant Islamic periods such as Ramadaan, Eid and Muharram. Our Winter Warmth project is run annually prior to the cold and wet Cape Town winter. We also have several monthly projects where we try to be consistent (although at a smaller scale) in assisting various Masjids, Islamic Education Institutions, Day Hospitals and Soup Kitchens.

FOOD HAMPERS

Annually we distribute food hampers on the first Saturday preceding Ramadan as well as the following four Saturdays that fall within the blessed month. We also distribute food hampers on the Saturday preceding other significant Islamic periods such as Eid Ul Adha and Ashura (10th Muharram). The substantial food hamper consists of various essential items required to sustain a family, the contents of which are carefully selected to include an assortment of goods. The food hamper includes a box of mixed fresh fruit and vegetables as well as over thirty grocery items.

Monthly Projects

Throughout the year we co-ordinate several monthly projects where we try be consistent (although at a smaller scale) in assisting various Masjids, Islamic Education Institutions, Day Hospitals and Soup Kitchens. The monthly projects are customised to the specific needs of the various institutions, no matter how big or small. Some examples of the current projects include:

  • Providing boxes of vegetables to a soup kitchen in Parkwood (Cape Town)
  • Providing tea, coffee, milk and sugar to a day hospital in Grassy Park (Cape Town) where many senior citizens often wait for long periods of time to access healthcare
  • Providing food hampers to a Masjid in Wynberg (Cape Town) which serves the surrounding community
  • Providing meat, cold meats, cheese and other necessities to an Islamic learning centre in Pelican Park (Cape Town)
